Our friend Big EZ is battling Multiple Myeloma... and to say he's kicking it's butt is an understatement. In reading their blog this week, I was inspired to join the Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Mike and I have given blood for years now. We started one October during Breast Cancer Awareness month, when we learned about all of the people who needed platelet transfusions. It isn't hard, just takes a couple of minutes and as long as we don't watch, its really no big deal! (Platelets take longer... enough to watch a movie and have a Sunkist... both of which I enjoy). Mike went every eight weeks in Charlotte.
So after reading their blog post here... I signed up! There are two processes that you could be asked to donate by. One is just like a blood transfusion. The other is an outpatient procedure that is painless- a little anesthesia and they draw cells from your pelvis. Heck, to save someone's life, I'm willing to go through a little discomfort.
So I signed up this morning. I hope you'll consider it too!
Thanks Rachel! That is so awesome too that both of you have been donating blood and platelets. Ernie had to have a few of each during the transplant process. Who knows if we will ever be a match for someone, but if we are we will surely be the ones who are blessed!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rachel for doing that, just great!!
ReplyDeleteRachel, our family so appreciates you doing this! I didn't know ya'll were such regular blood donors too. That's another thing that I need to do!!! Thanks again!
