One of my favorite holiday memories growing up was the trip to NJ to see Grandma Bayly and the East Coast Baylys. We woke up and watched the Christmas Parade and made our Christmas lists, had Thanksgiving at Aunt Gail and Uncle Doug's (memories to share another day... almost all of them involve Greg setting something on fire at the kid's table) and then spent the day after Thanksgiving decorating Grandma Bayly's house for Christmas.
Grandma had porcelain letters that spelled NOEL and mysteriously got changed to spell LEON during the trip. She laughed and changed it back... and eventually she started leaving it spelling LEON instead.
I'm lucky to be married to a very sentimental man who continues our family traditions in as many ways as possible.... Guenther, the name of our first born, Bayly, the name of our daughter on the way... seems fitting that the newest member of our family would have a family name as well....
So, when our Elf on the Shelf arrived today, he was named Leon. Which G pronounces LEE-ON. The first place we found him sitting was next to our family NOEL... sneakily he changed it to LEON.
